Usuario personal BPS and digital identity: how to get them

More and more Uruguayan State procedures happen online, and many of them require you to identify yourself. Two keys open almost everything: the Usuario personal BPS (for social security) and the Usuario gub.uy (for the rest of the State). Here's how to get them.

What each one is

The Usuario personal BPS is your secure access to Banco de Previsión Social services: work history, FONASA, contributions, family allowances and more. The Usuario gub.uy is the State's single digital identity: one account that lets you into DGI, BPS, health, education and other public-body procedures.

How to get the Usuario personal BPS

The first time is in person, to verify your identity; after that you use the account from home:

• Bring your valid cédula de identidad (ID card).
• Go to an enabled network (Abitab, Red Pagos and Correo outlets, plus BPS branches) or a BPS office.
• Validate your identity and set your access details.
• From then on you log in to BPS services online.

Your gub.uy digital identity

For the Usuario gub.uy you can choose how to identify yourself. Options come at different security levels; the validated-identity ones unlock the most sensitive procedures:

• gub.uy username and password (basic level).
• Abitab Identidad Mobile (phone app).
• Antel TuID (mobile digital identity).
• Electronic ID card with chip and a reader.
